Why we are different...

Thank you for visiting Ashes on the Sea. We are a small, caring company, family owned and operated. Ashes on the Sea will scatter the ashes of your loved one over the beautiful ocean off the coast of San Diego or many other locations. We are not a boat charter or rental company, nor are we a sports fishing company. Since burial at sea is our specialized service, we feel we are able to give excellent service to our families in need and focus on the issues affecting them during their difficult time.

Often, loved ones have requested their ashes be scattered over the sea in the event of their death. Perhaps the ocean is symbolic to them and holds special meaning. Whatever the reason, Ashes on the Sea can help you fulfill these wishes.

Scattering cremated ashes over the sea has become a very popular burial choice for many. Percentages for cremation and scattering at sea are rising dramatically. Compared to the cost of a land burial, burial at sea has many advantages. Although the death of a loved one is a most painful experience, scattering at sea can be a beautiful and respectful way to say farewell.

About Us

On April 21, 1997, my father died. His wish was to be cremated and his ashes spread upon the sea that he loved.

Ken relates, “The experience was so unlike a land burial, unlike any funeral I had ever experienced. There was no feeling of gloom. The ocean air and atmosphere gave the occasion an almost pleasant quality. I determined then to share this experience with others.”

Why We Are Different

	We are licensed with the State of California to offer and perform burial at sea services. For more information, please read the document "A brief statement on why we ask for documentation and legal paperwork." This document outlines some of the legalities of our services.
	The Global Positioning Satellite System (GPS) is used to verify the exact longitude and latitude where the ashes are scattered.
	You are issued a Memorial Certificate with exact location, date, and other details.
	On some boats and locations, we can photograph and/or videotape the scattering of ashes (small fee). Please ask if you are interested in this service. Keep in mind, if you want a professional photographer, we suggest you make these arrangements instead.

You can be assured that everything will be done in a manner that will give you true peace of mind, knowing that your wishes and those of your loved one are carried out in a timely and caring manner.

We also feel it is worth mentioning that we are not a boat charter or rental company. We are not a sports fishing company. The only service we offer is the scattering of ashes at sea. Hence, we feel we are able to give excellent service to our families in need and focus on the specific issues affecting them during their difficult time.

We aren't perfect. Sometimes, especially during summer months we are very busy and may be out of the office for extended periods of time. Since we are a small family-owned company, we do not have full time employees except for ourselves. To help manage those times when we are out of the office, we have employed an answering service company - Centratel - who handles our calls if we are not in the office. Anytime you leave a message with them, or on our voice mail system, we are paged immediately. Please be assured that your needs are very important to us and we will respond. If your issue is urgent, mentioning this to the operator will expedite your call.

Our usual office business hours are Mon-Fri from 10:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m. PST, but you can call anytime.
