| What are the benefits of cremation and scattering at sea as opposed to a land burial with coffin and a burial plot? 1. The number one benefit is COST - According to AARP, the average (U.S.) cost of a traditional funeral is $4,300. If you want to be buried in the ground, this can add an additional $2,400. Even direct cremation with a land burial can be as much as $3,000.00 or more. You can visit AARP's website and request a free booklet regarding funeral costs. A simple, Direct Cremation and burial at sea can cost as little as $525.00, depending on the firm you choose do perform the cremation. Remember to ask for all details. Direct Cremation can mean different things at each mortuary or funeral home. Ask what the lowest price direct cremation includes, and if there are any additional costs. The direct cremation cost at one company we looked at ranged in price from $395.00 to $ 1045.00, without the scattering at sea. Ashes on the Sea charges only $195.00 for an unattended burial at sea. You can send the ashes to us, and we scatter them in a dignified manner. There are no hidden charges. We take care of the necessary burial permits, and send you a Memorial Certificate noting the date and location, including the longitude and latitude as well as the name of the vessel used. For a free price quote, fill out our feedback form, explaining what you would like. We do offer additional services for family members including flowers and wreaths. Please see Services for more details. Our attended scattering at sea starts at only $585.00 and includes the boat charter, refreshments, all permits filed, music of your choice, and assistance for every step of the way in making your plans. We also provide fresh flower petals to be scattered with the ashes. Attended services include all basic services of an unattended scattering. You can save even more money by our do-it-yourself plan. 2. Not only is the cost difference a benefit, but Cremation and Burial at Sea is usually a more simple plan. There are many, many details that go along with a traditional funeral and land burial that involve time and expense on everyone's part. Stress over these things can be greatly reduced by choosing scattering at sea. We recommend researching all of your options, including reading the Consumer Guide to see how you can lessen your cost and anxiety surrounding your loved one's burial. We will be happy to talk with you regarding any of these points to help you come to a decision. Here at Ashes on the Sea, we also stress Memorialization, which is a way to remember your loved one and provide for ways to keep their memory living on. We offer online memorials for your family.
